| If you're applying to rent a co-op or condo, the requirements will be given to you by the landlord or by the Managing Agent. However, if you start with all of the information in this list, you'll have prepared many of the requirements you will need.
Have Money Ready
Landlords require
certified checks for at least the first month's rent and
one month of security. Money Orders are accepted. Personal
checks are generally not accepted with the application.
Sometimes, large cash deposits are required in lieu of certified
checks for part of the application monies. If your bank
is out of town, wiring money to a Western Union outlet is
a quick way of obtaining the necessary funds. Another expedient
alternative is to wire funds directly from your bank, or
from the guarantor's bank, into the landlord's account.
Most landlords will
give you a 24 hour period to secure all the money needed.
Go beyond that time limit and you risk losing that apartment
to someone who is already prepared.
* Information required may vary from landlord to landlord.
